In the Northern Hemisphere Autumn is already here, with shorter, colder days, and the crisp air that brings our consciousness to the here and now, to the pleasure of each breath and the golden colors of nature around us. At the same time the news remind us of the vulnerability of our existence and of the extreme suffering that so many peoples around the globe must undergo again and again. For some it is nature who brings weather calamities impossible to predict or defend against. Yet for thousands of children and adults, suffering and death was machinated with the help of the precious gift given to humans: our imagination, the star within that fascinated alchemists thousands of years ago. Our creative potentials are still put in service of the worst of evils: destroying other beings ‘life-along with houses, schools, hospitals…As such 2024 will be remembered as another year of extreme suffering, when lives, nature and hopes were lost.
For a handful of us instead, 2024 will stay as the year when we graduated at the CG Jung Institute Zurich. Suddenly, we had reached the goal cherished for long: to become a Jungian Analyst. I am sure that all of us present in the graduation ceremony, still can recall the summer on our skin, the sun shining over Zurich lake, brighter than we had seen so many times before. For us graduated, a milestone was reached, a rite the passage into a new state: we were finally within the community of analysts, together with our supervisors and analysts, teachers and examiners.
During that warm and welcoming ceremony, led by two members of the curatorium, analysts Evy Tausky and Janis Maxwell, it appeared as most of us were deeply touched. Some shared of the many years in which they cherished the wish to study at the CGJI. One had played in the gardens as child, other had brought her children to play while dreaming of coming inside and studying. Common for all was our gratitude to CGJung institute, particularly to the administrative personal, well structured, yet generous and patient when helping us to go through the education process. During these years we had inspiring teachers and supervisors, well-seasoned training analysts, and dear, cool co-students from ALL OVER THE WORLD! Literally! What a gift to be able to co-study under these well cared inner and outer spaces with other students from near and afar aimed to re-connect with their own soul, so to aid others to do the same.
While sitting in the Festsal that July afternoon, I became felt deep gratitude for the institute and for all others who made this important milestone possible. All those who valued education and who planted in us, directly or indirectly, the trust in following our dreams and accomplishing our goals. My thoughts went also to my dear parents and grandparents in Argentina. But even if each of us has a different path and story, we all share being extremely lucky and privileged. While schools, universities, concert halls and hospitals are being destroyed, all of us students and graduated of the CGJI keep on adding yet another scoop of studies to the many we already have.
May each of us find ways to bring C.G. Jung´s illuminating ideas to those who need it so dearly and will need them in the many years to come.
